The theme this year for the closing dinner was Olympics...
so of course I went with the most famous redheaded gold medalist I could think of for the Wife's costume. I think she made a very cute Shaun White.

Nice ride...
I couldn't help but wonder if a city actually sold the cop car this way or if it was stolen and this was their brilliant way of hiding it. Either way, I don't think we're dealing with the sharpest tools in the shed.

I would almost feel bad that our builder had to go to such lengths (pun totally intended) to change our living room light bulbs...
but he is the one who designed and installed it that way. Thankfully for the new owners (I know you're out there somewhere!!) we had 11 year bulbs put in. You're welcome.

cross your fingers
We found out today the possible locations for next round. I'm not sure how public this knowledge is yet, but I will say our fingers and toes are crossed, mates!
Hopefully, we'll find out in a couple of weeks where we're headed. Until then I suppose we should finish planning out our weekends here.

dipping back in reality
Somehow it seems I've found myself a little job. I wasn't looking, to be sure, but it found me and I have to say I'm a little excited. I'm retiring the daily photo for a little while, at least until I get this whole "being on an actual schedule with real responsiblities" thing under control.
Hopefully next week after we move to our new "home" in Midtown I'll feel a little less upside down and actually start blogging again. I know you were all dying to read about all the errands I've been running...Home Depot, meet the contractor, meet the landscaper, scream in madness over the mess the tenants left of our house, go to Lowes, drive up to the storage space, go back to Home Depot, meet the contractor again, go back to Lowes...it has been quite the adventure.
Anyhoo, don't give up on me. I promise to return back to the regularly scheduled program as soon as possible...

the daily
We've come home to so many of our friends as new parents and a lot who will be very soon. Meeting all these precious little babes has been so wonderful and we're so happy we'll be here for the births of a few more.
As cute and precious as they all have been, we can see how much work it really is to be a parent. We stand in awe of how our dear friends are rising to the challenge and taking this major life change in blissful stride. You guys are all amazing!
I don't know how you do it, but I'm planning on a lot of "time-outs" when we finally jump on the family wagon...

the daily
We've loved being home with all our friends and family since the holidays. The thing I miss most when we're on the road is just the normalcy and comfort of being with people you know and who know you.
Especially when they invite you over for dinner and game night...
I may have lost at Cranium and Apples to Apples, but I kicked all their arses at Clue. Thanks J & D for a great night!

The much anticipated...
Since we’re iced in for the 3rd day in a row and have been unceremoniously kicked out of the hotel lounge due to a misunderstanding with the new front desk personnel, (Who were we to argue when they told us at check-in that we have club level access and programmed our keys to give said access? I mean we did live in your hotels for 75 days last year. We thought it was the least you could do since you wouldn’t even give us a king bed. Obviously I’m digressing and I’m doing so within parenthesis…which is wrong on a lot of levels, but I’m okay with it since I think it gives you a sense of how stir crazy I’m feeling and how annoying I find this particular hotel. I’m just saying: Intercontinental = CRAPTASTIC loyalty program.) I don’t really have an excuse not to write.
Without further ado, our cat café story…
The day before we left Japan we finally made it past the cat covered door at Hapineko Cat Café in Shibuya. Of course once we made it to that door we had 20 minutes of preparation before actually be allowed past the second door and in with the cats.
First up was the menu because the “café” part of a cat café is literal…
Then we had to brush up on the rules like how to properly support a cat’s butt and how wrong it is to pick up a cat from a “high” place…
We then had to sign some papers, take off our shoes, place our bags inside a laundry bag, wash and sanitize our hands, put on some slippers and *drum roll please*…
I’m not sure what I expected from café cats, maybe a little caffeine induced energy, but what we got was what everyone gets with a cat- pure, unadulterated laziness.
I’d say at least 98% of the cats were sleeping and those not sleeping were plenty content to just hide out in their pineapples…
Our entry fee included 30 minutes and a drink. I have to say my latte was pretty good, but with all the sleepers and the rules about which cat you could pick up or touch only on the head (different collars meant they had just been to the vet) I was getting a little worried we’d only be experiencing the café portion of the place.
Why weren’t these cats interested in us? What did this lady have that we didn’t???
Then one of the ladies brought out a laser light and all was saved…
We experienced a lot of strange things in Japan, but this one definitely took the cake.
The cupcake…

I apologize for the prolonged silence, as always when we return home, life is nuts right now. Although I've somehow been able to keep up with the daily photos, I just haven't had the chance to really write.
As soon as we have seen everyone we need to see and get this house in order and ready to get on the market I'll be able to breath again and even type.
Cat cafes, Mexico, Christmas, New Year's Eve and hellish moving stories still to come...
